Mobile Welder
Foran Mining Corporation (TSX:FOM) is a forward-thinking mining company redefining the industry. We are seeking 2 Mobile Welders to join our growing McIlvenna Bay team. This is a full-time position based at the McIlvenna Bay site working a 7/7 rotation.
The McIlvenna Bay Cu-Zn-Au-Ag deposit is one of the largest undeveloped VHMS deposits in Canada. Foran recently announced (2024) approval by the Board of Directors for the project to proceed to the formal construction phase with initial production expected in Q4 2025. The McIlvenna Bay deposit’s core commodities are critical for the global transition to green energy and Foran aims to extract these critical minerals in a sustainable manner by empowering local communities, contributing to circular economies and protecting the environment for future generations.
As part of the Maintenance Team, the Mobile Welder will support the safe and efficient operation of our mining operations by performing welding and fabrication work on various equipment, ranging from light service vehicles to heavy-duty machinery. Your work will involve the construction of new structures, as well as repairs, modifications, and maintenance of existing infrastructure and equipment. This is a mobile role, requiring the ability to travel across the site to provide on-the-spot repairs and support.
Job Responsibilities:
Welding and Fabrication:
- Perform welding on a variety of equipment and machinery, including light vehicles, loaders, haul trucks, and drills.
- Fabricate and construct new structures, components, or equipment as needed.
- Modify and repair existing equipment to meet operational needs or safety standards.
Equipment and Safety Inspections:
- Conduct inspections to assess equipment damage or wear and provide recommendations for repairs.
- Ensure all welding activities align with safety, quality, and operational standards.
Collaboration and Coordination:
- Work closely with mechanics, electricians, and other maintenance personnel to coordinate repairs and minimize downtime.
- Respond to breakdowns and emergencies promptly to reduce production delays.
- Keep maintenance logs and ensure proper documentation of completed work.
Compliance and Safety:
- Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and adherence to mine safety regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized mobile welding unit, ensuring tools and equipment are in good working condition.
Job Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certification in welding or fabrication (e.g., CWB, AWS) is highly preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role.
- Journeyperson Welder Certification or equivalent (Red Seal preferred).
- Valid driver's license; ability to operate site vehicles.
- Proven experience as a welder, ideally in a mining or heavy industrial setting.
- Experience working with various welding techniques, such as MIG, TIG, and arc welding.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Knowledge of metallurgy and welding materials.
- Proficiency in using power tools, cutting torches, and welding equipment.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
Compensation and Benefits:
We offer a competitive hourly salary of $47.46/hr in addition to a bonus annual surface OR a monthly underground component.
