ROLE SUMMARY:

Peter Ballantyne Field Services is looking for Slashers, responsible for clearing dense vegetation, brush, and small trees from land to prepare it for construction, farming, or forest management. This role involves the use of specialized tools and machinery to ensure that land is cleared effectively and safely. Slashers often work in outdoor environments such as forests, fields, and construction sites.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Use tools such as machetes, chainsaws, slashers, and brush cutters to clear dense vegetation, weeds, and overgrown brush.
- Safely operate and maintain clearing equipment such as slashers (mechanical or motorized), chainsaws, and tractors.
- Prepare sites for construction, farming, or forest management by ensuring land is free of unwanted vegetation.
- Follow all safety protocols when using heavy machinery or sharp tools. Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) like helmets, gloves, and safety boots.
- Perform basic maintenance on clearing equipment to ensure it is in good working condition, including checking fuel, oil, and sharpness of blades.
- Manage and dispose of cleared vegetation appropriately, either by hauling it away or mulching it.
- Work with supervisors, landowners, or other team members to meet project goals and timelines.
SKILL & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor in outdoor environments, often in challenging weather conditions.
- Experience operating chainsaws, slashers, brush cutters, and other vegetation-clearing tools.
- Knowledge of safety standards and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Ability to assess and clear vegetation effectively, ensuring that all obstacles are removed from the land.
- Good communication skills for coordinating with supervisors and fellow workers.
- Experience in land clearing, forestry, landscaping, or similar roles preferred.
- Chainsaw operation or equipment handling certification may be required.
- High school diploma or equivalent. Specific training in land clearing or machinery operation may be advantageous.
- Minimun 2 years of experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Location: Outdoor work on construction sites, or forested areas.
- Hours: Full-time, with possible overtime depending on project deadlines and weather conditions.
- Physical Demands: Requires lifting, bending, and working in rugged terrain for extended periods.
