Ride Safe – ATV Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility
With many new ATVs on the land and in our communities, Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation is reminding all riders to put safety first—every ride, every time.
Here are important safety tips to help protect yourself and others:
- Always wear a helmet and protective gear – This includes goggles, long sleeves, gloves, pants, and over-the-ankle boots.
- Never ride on paved roads – ATVs are designed for off-road use only. Riding on pavement increases the risk of a crash.
- Do not carry passengers – Unless your ATV is specifically designed for two people, never ride with a passenger.
- Never let children ride adult-sized ATVs – Riders under 16 should operate youth models that fit their size and ability.
- Ride only during daylight hours – Visibility is key. Avoid night riding.
- Take a hands-on ATV safety course – Learn the proper techniques for starting, turning, braking, and riding safely.
We also remind riders to follow all traffic laws, respect community spaces, and never ride under the influence. Parents and caregivers—please supervise youth riders and talk to them about these important safety rules.
Let’s keep each other safe and responsible this season.
