COMMUNITY ADVISORY FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation continues “State of Local Emergency” due to the
tragic incident in Pelican Narrows.

Today, there was a tragic incident, resulting in the death of a member in Pelican Narrows, our
condolences to the victim’s family and community.

The safety of the members is a priority, effective immediately the community of Pelican
Narrows will be on a curfew from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Members are notified that check
stops will be increased, including patrolling all entries and the community. We encourage
parents to communicate with their youth and young adults to refrain from engaging in any
social activity.

The leadership met with RCMP, and we ask members to fully cooperate with the police. We
request that members be on alert as the person(s) responsible are at large, and to keep their
doors locked and to report any suspicious activity. In response to this critical incident, we will
immediately notify Indigenous Services Canada and First Nations Indigenous Health Branch for
additional human and fiscal resources to assist the community.
